Facial Detection and

Recognition for
Attendance Under Python
environment
REPORTING IN CPE103L
Group 9
introduction
A human’s cognitive memory is less perceptive than a computer’s and
humans had been experience difficulty in identifying faces for identification
and security measurement. These kind of cases can cause problems such as
invasion of privacy and possibly harm innocent civilians.
The program want to make establishment at ease from the attendance to
security to even checking the records of the people in the area. In some cases,
it can also set as surveillance helps specific scenario with criminal intent.

Project Background
• Face detection and recognition were invented in the 1960s.
• At first, they function as semi-automated system which was accompanied by assistance operators.
• In the 21st century, facial recognition is fully-automated and uses either body parts or facial features for
identification and security system.
• Eventually, diverse technological companies and enterprises are implementing facial recognition in their products.
• When it comes to security systems in Asian countries, China, which is in par with the technology of Western
countries, has 60 airports equipped with facial recognition system. Cameras at 557 security channels capture images
of faces and scan their passports and ID cards to verify an identity.
• In the Philippines, their country’s military are in process of acquiring facial recognition software and drones in order
to improve their intelligence capabilities as it combats terrorism. The Philippines has also approved national
biometric ID system, and had also issued biometric drivers’ licenses in the year 2017. Similarly in other Asian-
pacific countries (Singapore and Malaysia) that were concerned about their security system are most likely to
engaged face recognition and detection.

Statement of the Problem
The question below will be answered based on the data that the
programmers had gathered, the data will be validated to ensure that the
statement of the problem will be answered.
1. How does face recognition benefit companies, security surveillance,
teachers and students in schools or universities?
2. What is the economic and social impact of facial recognition in relation to
the cost?
3. What can be the advantage and the disadvantage of facial recognition in the
long run ?
4. What would be the economic and social factors of implementing facial
recognition?

General Objectives
The main purpose of the program is to provide
improved security system, efficient and organized
database management for companies, business
owners, schools, and universities.

Specific Objectives
• To track both the employees and any visitors that come to
corporation’s premises to ensure safety, capture trespassers, and
make alerts upon suspicious people.

• To eliminate the needs of physical storage and papers that contain

records especially attendance in schools, physical file handling of
student, teacher, and personnel records.

Conclusion
In accordance to the observation of the programmer regarding the “Facial Detection and
Recognition for Attendance Under Python environment” the programmers can conclude
that the program can help multiple companies, universities and other establishment for
replacing the old attendance scheme such as the I.D. card and the program don’t just
covered the attendance but rather can be used in security purpose as like surveillance if
crime were committed under any areas.
The programmers also wants to elaborate the other purpose which is to lessen
documents, papers, and other stuff needed for records, in this way the need for storage for
tangible documents will be

Expected Result
• There are key points that the programmers intend to specify:
1. A user-friendly attendance system to register a student that inputs his or her student
ID, name, course, and facial image. This is required in order to recognize a student
within the program.
2. A user-friendly class based attendance for teachers to detect facial images of student
to which the program will be able to recognize detected facial images as present in class
including the date of attendance, ID, name, and course.
3. A separate accessible databases for teachers to examine the registered students
database and the attendance database.
4. The program will depend on the position of the eyes, mouth, nose, and ears; it will
extract contours and any other facial accessories in the face.
