What is IOT?

• The Internet of Things, or IoT, refers to the billions

of physical devices around the world that are
now connected to the internet, all collecting and
sharing data.

• In simple words, Internet of Things (IoT) is an

ecosystem of connected physical objects that are
accessible through the internet.
First, sensors or devices help in collecting very minute data from the surrounding
environment.

Next, that collected data is sent to a cloud infrastructure but it needs a medium for
transport.

Once the data is collected and it gets to the cloud, the software performs processing on the
acquired data.

Next, the information made available to the end-user in some way. This can achieve by
triggering alarms on their phones or notifying through texts or emails.
IOT Technologies
What is

made of ?

Hardware  Software
Hardware

• IoT Hardware includes a wide range of devices such as devices for

routing, bridges, sensors etc. These IoT devices manage key tasks and
functions such as system activation, security, action specifications,
communication, and detection of support-specific goals and actions.
Software

• The software and the programming languages on which IoT works

uses very common programming languages that programmers use
and already know.

• IoT software encompasses a wide range of software and programming

languages from general-purpose languages like C++ and Java to
embedded-specific choices like Google’s Go language or Parasail.
Softwares Used
• Programming Language: C/C++, Python, Java, Javascript

• Simulation: Proteus, TinkerCAD, NETSIM, CUPCARBON U-ONE

• Cloud: Google Cloud, MS Azure, AWS, IBM Watson, Cisco IoT, Salesforce

• User Interface: Mobile Apps and Desktop Dashboards

IOT protocols

• CoAP
It is designed to enable simple, constrained devices to join IoT through
constrained networks having low bandwidth availability.

• MQTT
It’s normally used for faraway tracking in IoT. MQTT connects gadgets
and networks with packages and middleware.
Contd.

• AMQP
It supports reliable verbal exchange through message transport
warranty primitives like at-most-once, at least once and exactly as soon
as shipping.

• DDS
It enables a scalable, real-time, reliable, excessive-overall performance
and interoperable statistics change via the submit-subscribe technique.
Applications
Forecast of IOT devices from 2018 to 2023 by CISCO
Forecast end-user spending on IoT solutions worldwide from 2017
to 2025(in billion U.S. dollars)
Advantages

• Minimize human effort

• Save time
• Improve security
• Business Benefits
• Increased Productivity
Disadvantages

• Security
• Complexity
• Compatibility
• Lesser Employment
• Technology Takes Control of Life
