 Childhood
• He was a round and chubby child
• He grew up in a rich family with a
large house and a nanny, two
cooks and a chauffeur-driven Rolls
Royce car.
• His father was a businessman
• As a boy, he always wanted to be
an author but none of his family
members thought he’d be able to
make a living by writing stories.

Anthony’s mother gave him a human skull
for his 13th birthday! He keeps it on his
desk to remind him to work hard all his
life!
 Childhood- School
• Anthony went to boarding school when he
was eight years oldlife
• He had a terrible time there because the
staff treated him badly and the
headmaster often punished the pupils

• He began writing to escape from reality
• As an adult, he took his revenge upon the
cruel staff by using their names as the
baddies in his books!
• His famous series Groosham Grange is
based on those unhappy times

• When Anthony was 21, his father
went to Switzerland and hid his
money away in a bank account to
keep it safe
• But he died of an illness and no one
from the family knew about the
whereabouts of the transferred
money or the bank account
• In this way, the family fortune was
lost and Anthony’s family lost all of
their money

• Anthony took a job of writing texts for
advertisements
• He was good at it, but he really
wanted to write books
• One wet afternoon, he wrote the first
sentence of a children’s book about
the most unpleasant boy in the world
• The sentence grew into his first story,
The Sinister Secret of Frederick K.
Bowler – published in 1979

• Anthony began writing scripts for TV
programmes such as Robin of
Sherwood and the Pentagram series,
about an ancient evil that threatens
the whole world.
