Ducks – Ducks are as important as chickens.

They provide meat and eggs that can be made into


balut, penoy, or salted eggs. They are classified as:

a. Egg laying ducks


• Native or Pateros ducks – have feathers that are black gray. Their bodies are smaller than other
breeds but they lay large eggs. Raised chiefly for their eggs.
• The White Fawn or the Leghorn – the most popular variety because of its good-sized white eggs.
b. Meat Type – This ducks originated from Brazil and are raised for their meat.
c. Dual-purpose Peking Duck from China – can be raised commercially for its meat and eggs.
Duck raising is as important as chicken raising.
