Identifying Parts of Plot

PLOT

 Plot is a series of events in the story. The plot usually follows a


particular structure called Freytag’s Pyramid.
Introduction or Exposition

It provides background information needed to make sense of the action, describes the setting, and
introduces the major characters.

SETTING- is where and when the story takes place. It includes the following:

The time of day such as morning, afternoon, or night.

The weather such as cloudy, sunny, windy, snow, or rain, etc.

The historical period such as what century or decade the story takes place.

The geographical location including the city, state, country,


Rising Action

 The part tells of the characters’ encounter with a problem and


struggle to solve it. This problem is called conflict.
Climax

 The part usually involves an important discovery, decision or


event. It is the turning point and is considered as the most exciting
part.
Falling Action

 In this part, the story draws to a close. The characters have found
an answer to their problem.
Resolution or Denouement

 This part shows the end part of the story
