m This project is about creating a wireless

communication between one or two computers

and allowing to computers to exchange
information using IR/Bluetooth technology.

m In this system we will transmit data from one

system and receive data on another system using
IR Technology.
INTRODUCTION
Why the work is being done?
EXAMPLEj
Imagine that a student is setting in front of his computer at his dorm room at
a university accommodation, and he wants to send some file to his friend. And
they can not or do not want use the internet for some reason. That is not all;
they do not live in the same flat or the same floor. And what makes it more
complicated is that both of them have desktops, don't have an external hard
drive or a CD to move the file to Picture that happening in a person's house or
better yet in his office at work where he can't use the network to access
shared files. Plus that he can not log on to any file share program of any sort
and the file is too big to be uploaded in an email. Of consider that those
people want to send those files to several computers. And at the same time,
they want to know that the files were sent with no problems without leaving
their computers for some reason. Then the only sensible way would be using
a piece of hardware to set up a wireless connection that is so strong that it
reaches long distances and is not blocked completely by walls or any other
obstacles. Yet at the same time it is very easy to use, as easy as connecting
two computers using IR/BLUETOOTH technology .

UNGUIDED MEDIA: WIRELESS
Unguided media transport electromagnetic waves without using a physical
conductor. This type of communication is often referred to as wireless
communication.

Radio, satellite microwave,, Bluetooth, and infrared light are all different
forms of electromagnetic waves that are used to transmit data
PC TO PC WE ARE GOING WITH
IRDA uInfrared Data Association)
K The Infrared Data Association (IrDA) defines physical specifications
communications protocol standards for the short-range exchange of data
over infrared light, for uses such as personal area networks (PANs).
K IrDA is a very short-range example of free space optical communication.
K IrDA interfaces are used in medical instrumentation, test and measurement
equipment, palmtop computers, mobile phones, and laptop computers (most
laptops and phones also offer Bluetooth but it is now becoming more
common for Bluetooth to simply replace IrDA in new versions of products).
K IrDA specifications include IrPHY, IrLAP, IrLMP, IrCOMM, Tiny TP, IrOBEX,
IrLAN and IrSimple. IrDA has now produced another standard, IrFM, for
Infrared financial messaging (i.e., for making payments) also known as "Point
& Pay³.
K For the devices to communicate via IrDA they must have a direct line of
sight similar to a TV remote control.

The most important specifications arej-

Î Range j standard 1 m

Î Low power to low power j 0.2 m

Î Standard to low power j 0.3 m

Î Angle j minimum cone ±15°

Î Speed j 2.4 Kbit/s to 16 Mbit/s

Î Modulation j baseband
IR ADVANTAGES :
1. Requires low power to operate such mobile electronics.
2. The cost of infrared port is low.
3. Since the two infrared ports on the two computers
has to be directed to each other to get connected, the security risks are very low or
almost none.
4. Most infrared ports can communicate with each other with noproblems, so the
user can use it with almost any device any ware. Thanks to the IrDA.
6. Fast data transmitting, some infrared devices can reach 16Mbps. .

IR DISADVANTAGES:
1. The transmitting computer must be aligned with the receiving for the connection to
work.
2. Almost anything can block its signal or decrease it greatly, wall, people, door etc.
3. It works best at short distances. As its performance drops down significantly as the
distance increases.
4. The connection can be affected negatively as Light increases. For example direct
sunlight.
5. The weather affects the transmission negatively. Such as rain, fog, dust and
pollution.
6. when two devices are connected to each other, no more devices
can connect to either of them (one to one).
