Writing Using Sources

Colleen and Caleb

Exit Ticket!!

Before we start, let’s talk about the exit ticket.

Primary vs Secondary
Clarification from yesterday's lesson
Why do we need sources in our writing?
- They are a great way to backup the information in your writing
- They are first hand information that allows us to see an unbiased look from
the time period we write about
- They might help you argue for or against something, serving as your evidence
- They are something that we look at and physically see so it is different from
other style of writing
How do we use primary and secondary sources in our writing?

This video explains how we can use these sources in your own writing!
How can do we do this?
- Introduce the source with title and author, if possible.
- Explain how the source is important to your writing
- Be sure to cite your source
- Use the source to help your argument, whether that means refuting a point or
backing up a point with a source of any kind
- Sources can be pictures, speeches, letters, and a variety of other things, use
that to your advantage!
Example- the writing uses the sources to back up an original thought.
