THE SOCIAL SCIENCE PERSPECTIVE

• A community is a congregation of people with


common characteristic.
• Recognizes the family as a key player for
behavior pattern.
THE COMMUNTY-BASED PERSPECTIVE (Local
& Grassroot Level)

As established in the studies by Merzel and D’Affliti (2003) –


community is seen as:
• setting for intervention
• target for change
• a resource
• an agent.
THE ECOLOGICAL PERSPECTIVE

• Behavior is perceived not only as a product of knowledge,


values, and attitudes but also views behavior as result of
social influences.
THE SECTORAL PERSPECTIVE

• A communities are seen as a system which is comprised of


individual and sectors with diverse characteristics and
interrelationships.
• Sectors are composed of individuals embodying distinct roles
and interests within the community
THE CIVIL SOCIETY PERSPECTIVE

• A wide array of nongovernmental organizations and volunteer


groups that fights for solutions to social issues and calls the
community to organize social change.
• Goal is to mobilize the members to participate in the
community’s
THE CLASSIFICATION OF COMMUNITES

1. Rural-Urban
It is composed of agricultural lands, also referred as industrial
communities. Urban pertains to highly industrialize
communities
2. Slums
A densely populated area usually crowded and has dirty run-
down housing

3. Subdivision
An area of land that has been divided on smaller areas on
which houses are built
Social Status
Refers to the social standing of an individual in a community
