Lewis structure:
A remarkably simple qualitative model was
invented by G.N. Lewis, based on some rules
that most chemical bonds appear to obey.
In elaborating these rules, we will take as given
facts like the number of valance electrons
available to a particular atom.
Multi-electron atoms can have two electrons in a
given orbital, and Lewis observed that molecules
tend to populate the states associated with
bonds so as to give each atom participating in
the bond a “closed shell” electronic count.
