GUIDE FOR GROUP

DISCUSSION “Hamlet”
Guide for Group Discussion
1) First, create FIVE groups for both A1-B1 class
2) List the member of the groups and work together with your group
3) Download and watch “Hamlet” (1990) based on the links which I
have shared
4) Discuss the movie once you all have read it.
5) The result of your discussion should be written in MS-Word
document, submitted on the e-learning, and you and your group
will be asked to read that result on the next meeting.
6) Your discussion’s result will be scored as assignment.
Discussion’s Result
The discussion’s result should be able to answer this points:
a) The summary of the story (1-2 paragraphs)
b) What are the characters you find? What characterization and interesting
points they show in the story?
c) What is the setting you can find in the story? It can be time, place, social, or
historical setting.
d) Based on your discussion, what is the major conflict in the story? Is it
external or internal conflict? Why do you think this major conflict happens?
e) After considering some important points in the story, mention the theme of
the story.
Discussion’s Result
f) Important things you have to find in the story:
- Is there any gender inequality or woman oppression (or abuse) there?
- Is there any psychological phenomena or psychological problem there?
- If you like to read quotes proposed to important people, can
you relate that quote with that story and how you feel about the story as a
reader?
- Can you find ‘binary opposition’ in the story? If you can, please
list those oppositions, such as soft vs rude, kind vs cruel, heroic vs
villainous, etc.
