Issue/Background

• Women of color tend to face many problems with


regards to discrimination and prejudice in the
workplace
• The biggest issue with women of color is the
intersectionality of discrimination
• They face sexism for being women
• They face racism for being of color

• Prejudice is mostly latent but yet present

Definition of Success

• Achieving a level of satisfaction and happiness

• Not just about making money

• Being able to balance work and family

• Tenacity and determination important

• Being recognized for your work, not for who you are in
terms of race or gender
Findings

• Difficulties of being a woman of color


• Prejudice
• From within the organization
• From customers
• Latent discrimination
• Was not promoted
• White man hired from outside instead
• Negative feelings on a daily basis
• Not being recognized for the hard work
Need for Change

• Extended paid maternal leaves for women

• Being pregnant is natural

• Women need to take care of children for a year

• This time should be paid by organizations

• This is a woman’s right

• Places women on equal footing to men.
