Inverse Functions
To find the inverse of f, apply the following procedure.

1. Test to see if the f is one- to – one.

2. Write the function in the form y= f(x) and interchange the roles
of x and y

3. Solve y in terms of x, and replace y by f-1 (x).

4. Check to see that the domain of f is the range of f-1 , and that
domain of f-1 is the range of f.
•  1. f(x) = 2x -7
y= 2x -7

x = 2y – 7
x+7 = 2y

f-1 (x ) =
•  2. f(x) = x3 +8

y = x3 +8

x = y3 +8

x- 8= y3

=3

f-1 (x ) =
