 The first known attempt to parachute took place in Córdoba (Spain), in the
year 852, with partial success, since Abbas Ibn Firnas, the man who jumped,
suffered some injuries when he fell. Leonardo da Vinci also suggested the use
of the parachute when he lived in Milan. Throughout history there were many
other failed attempts, however the French Louis-Sébastien Lenormand
invented the first practical parachute in 1783. In 1785 the French aeronaut
Jean Pierre Blanchard dropped a dog equipped with a parachute from a balloon
and in 1793 he claimed to have made the first successful human descent using
a parachute. Henceforth, parachutes became a standard part of the equipment
of passengers in hot air balloons and after the First World War were adopted as
security systems for pilots and passengers of aircraft.

 During the Second World War, armies generalized the use of parachutes by
equipping specialized troops that were launched in areas located behind enemy lines
from transport aircraft. Often the flight height was relatively low and the parachutes
were designed to open automatically when leaving the aircraft using ribbons that link
the structure with the parachute opening system. In most subsequent armed conflicts,
parachutes have been used to drop heavy equipment such as tanks, trucks and
cannons. The canopy or cloth awning of a heavy equipment parachute can measure
up to 30 meters in diameter.
 In the 1970s, the sport parachuting became very popular thanks to a system of quick
release of the main parachute based on the three rings or rings, designed by engineer
Bill Booth, 2 that allowed anyone to use it.
