• Determine the order of equipment to be lifted;

Install the suitable lifting clamps on the ESP units.

• Lift DMT and lower it

down into the well.

• Place the DMT slowly on

the jacks.

• Always use the hole

cover!

• Lift the motor carefully;
• Use heavy lifting tools if needed.

• Lower the motor

carefully and open the
bottom shipping cap;
• Avoid the spilled oil;
• Replace old oring with
new and suitable one.

• Lift the motor to

appropriate height;

• Align motor to the

surveyor assembly;

• Do not rotate the units!

• Use jacks for tandem

motor installaion.

• Rest the motor and DMT assy down on the jacks;
• Tighten the bolts with appropriate torque procedure


Lift the motor up and

remove the jacks and
plate assembly;

• Lower the motor

down and remove
the top shipping
cap;

 Be careful not to drop dirt

into the motor.

Remove the shaft
plug;
This is to prevent air
trapped inside the
shaft hollow.

• Re-install the
shipping cap;

• Leave one lock

washer to create a
gap between cap
and motor flange to
allow air
circulation.

Lift the motor assembly
out of the well;
• Remove the lowest fill
plug;
• Make sure not to open
the drain valve;
• Remove the lead gasket.

Make sure to use the
right motor oil;
Purge the air inside
the hose;

• Install the adapter and slowly
pump (45 rev/min) the motor oil;

• Keep pumping until the oil

comes out from the top of motor;

• Wait for 5 minutes and continue

to pump;

• Repeat until only it needs one

turn to make oil comes out from
the top of motor.

• When finished, remove the
adapter, install the fill plug (15 lbf
ft);

• Lower the motor assembly down

into the well;
• Check the shaft rotation;
• Fill the motor oil from the top
shaft hollow;
• Install the shaft plug again.

• Lift the protector up;

 Remove the bottom
shipping cap;

• Check the protector shaft

rotation;

• Change with the new O’ring;

Apply grease (dow corning);

• Carefully join the protector

and motor.

• Make sure the MLE slot is

aligned.

• Apply appropriate torque setting

after the assembly rests on the
motor clamp;

• Pick up the assembly, remove the

motor clamp;

• Carefully lower the assembly

into the well.

 Open the top shipping cap;

Check shaft rotation

• Join the intake with protector –

No O’ring is applied;

• Apply the appropriate torque

setting;

• Lift up the pump and remove
the bottom shipping cap.

• If using compression ring

pump, apply the following
shimming procedures:

• Do not forget to check the

coupling;

• Apply the shimming tool

and tighten the tool bolts;

• Loosen the jam nut;

• Apply 5 lbf ft to the

setting bolt –Do not
over tighten;

• Tighten the jam nut.

• Remove the shimming tool;
• Take and record the measurement (for 400 series or less)
• Loosen the jam nut.

• Do not flip the shimming tool;

 Flip only the tool bolts;
• Turn the setting bolt so it will
touch the bottom shaft of the
pump;
• Tighten the jam nut;
 Remove the tool bolts
• Take and record the second
measurement.

• Subtract the both

measurements;
• Apply the spacing
requirement on TSM;
• Choose the suitable shims;
• Put the thickest one at the
bottom of the coupling;

• Replace with the new O’ ring

and grease;
• Connect the intake with the
pump, apply torque setting;
• Avoid the lock plate being
aligned with MLE;
• Lift the assembly up and
remove protector clamp;
• Bring the assembly down and
check the shaft rotation

• Raise the assembly up until the motor

pothead is at a suitable position;
• Feed the MLE through the cable
sheave;
• Lift the sheave over the head, but less
than 10 feet;
• Check the motor and cable reading
with Fluke;

 DO NOT forget to put the O’ ring on;

Use pliers and small hammer to

connect the MLE and motor
terminal;
• Apply half lap layers of teflon tape;
• Repeat for the other conductors;
• Bind all three connectors with two
half layers of teflon tape and two
half layers of cotton tape

 Make sure the pothead is full of

oil;
• No dirt or water goes inside the
motor;
• Slowly push the leads into the
motor pothead;
• Apply suitable torque when
tightening the bolts.

 Follow the servicing protector
procedure on the TSM;
• Pay attention on the long and short
plug;
• Always replace lead gasket with the
new one;
• Keep pumping until the oil comes out
from intake’s weep hole;
• Remove the adapter, install the standard
plug complete with new lead gasket.

 Install cable bands or

suitable MLE protector;
 Install suitable power
cable clamps on the
tubing.

Expert

Lift up the cable sheave approximately 30 ft

from the well head;
Check the cable reading (ph-ph) and (ph-gr)
every 10 stands while RIH.

POINTS TO REMEMBER

1. Always replace the lead gasket with a new one

2. Double check to all plugs for tightness
3. Make sure correct couplings and O rings are used
4. Confirm long and short plugs are installed correctly in
the protector
5. Check rotation before connecting to other units
6. Do cable and motor winding test prior to connection
7. Never ever forget to put O ring on the MLE head
8. Work safely Do Not Hurry
