Fertilizers And Pesticide

Introduction

What is Agriculture Pollution?

Main Causes of Pollution.
What is fertilizer and Pesticide?
Harmful effect of using chemical fertilizer.
Way to stop.
Agriculture Pollution

• REFERS TO BIOTIC AND ABIOTIC BY PRODUCTS OF FARMING

PRACTICES THAT RESULT IN CONTAMINATION OR DEGRADATION
OF THE ENVIRONMENT AND SURROUNDING ECOSYSTEMS,
AND/OR CAUSE INJURY TO HUMANS AND THEIR ECONOMIC
INTERESTS
Main Causes Of Agriculture Pollution

• Pesticides and Fertilizers

• Contaminated Water
• Soil Erosion and Sedimentation
• Livestock
• Pests and Weeds
Fertilizer

• USED TO CORRECT SOIL DEFICIENCIES. NECESSARY NUTRIENTS

LIKE NITROGEN(N), PHOSPHORUS(P), POTASSIUM(K), CALCIUM,
MAGNESIUM AND MANY MORE ARE OBTAINED FROM
FERTILIZERS Fertilizer
Pesticide

• To kill, destroy pests and weeds.

• Decrease fertility of soil
Types Of Fertilizers

Organic fertilizers-
• Obtained from naturally occurring substances.
• Made from plant, animal by products.
• Compost , manure, marine byproducts. 
Inorganic fertilizers-
• Synthetically manufactured.
• Like nitrogen fertilizers, potassium fertilizers, phosphorous fertilizers
Disadvantages of Fertilizers

• Accumulation of soil acidity in soil which increases aluminum availability and

hence toxin.
• Fertilizer burn.
• Nitrogen fertilizer can be converted by soil bacteria to nitrogen oxide, a
greenhouse gas which also causes acid rain
Fertilizer Analysis

• Fertilizer analysis expresses weight as a percent of nitrogen, phosphorus and

potassium.
Effects of Nitro, Phosphorous and Potash

• Nitrogen Causes: Leaching to field drains, Gaseous loss as nitrogen oxides

after denitrification and Volatilization as ammonia.
• Phosphorous Causes: P - poorly taken up by crops and remaining effectively
converted to water insoluble form.
• Potassium: K - taken up by crops to variable extents. Adsorbed by cation
exchange complex of soil.
Way To Out

Many ways to reduce pollution

• Nutrient management
• Cover crops
• Buffers
• Managing livestock waste
• Drainage water management
