ADVERBS OF

MANNER
◦ - We use adverbs of manner to say how we do something.
Carl can run very fast.

◦ -they come after the verb or the object if the sentence contain one.
They don’t speak clearly.
Lia can draw animals well.
o - to form regular adverbs we add –ly to the adjective (nice-nicely, loud-loudly)
o -for adjectives ending in –y, we remove the y and add –illy. (happy-happily, noisy-noisily)
o -for adjectives ending in – l, we add –ly (careful-carefully, beautiful- beautifully)
o -some adverbs of manner are irregular (good-well, hard-hard, late-late)
Should/ shouldn’t
◦ Affirmative – You should read Memories..
◦ Negative – You shouldn’t disturb your neighbours.
◦ We use should and shouldn’t to give advice and say that we think something is a good or bad idea. (You should put cold
water on a burn.)
◦ Should is the same for all persons. We can use infinitive without to after should. – He should help his parents with the
housework.
