Our unit does not have a
Weight Control Program

RECOMMENDATION
It is my recommendation that we implement a weight
control program that promotes healthy and physical fit
Soldiers in the company.

ASSUMPTIONS
• Many feel that Command inspections are used to
degrade or provide negative feedback to units

• Field Soldier vs. Garrison Solder

• Leaders feel that if there are too many Soldiers in the


overweight program, it is a direct reflection of a
command not doing enough physical training

COURSE OF ACTION
#1
• Implement an Army Weight Control Program according to
AR 600-9

• Will be in compliance with Army, Brigade, and Squadron


standards

• Develop and educate leaders and soldiers on the program

• Have the Master Fitness trainer for the company develop a


physical fitness regimen solely for overweight personal so
they can lose weight

• Do not implement any Army Weight Control Program and
continue to foster an environment where Soldiers don’t
have any self-discipline, personal goals, or not being
physically fit.

• No special pop physical training

• No leader involvement

• Start an Army Weight Control Program in the company

• Don’t keep any records or enforce any standards in


accordance with AR 600-9

• Just keep a book for inspections purpose only

Advantages
• The implementation of the AWCP will be in compliance
with Army standards
• We can identify Soldiers who need help and find the
necessary ways to help them
• Chapter Soldiers who do not meet and maintain
standards
Disadvantages
• Time consuming to get appointments

Advantages
• We can put more effort into other programs and projects
in the company

• Don’t have to worry about appointments

Disadvantages
• We won’t be supporting higher headquarters and will fail
OCIE and SAV inspections

• Command team compromising values

• Leaders wouldn’t have any ownership of Soldiers

CONCLUSION
It is my recommendation that course of action #1 is the
best course to execute. This will meet all standards
from higher headquarters, Soldiers will be able to
physically endure their duties during combat
operations, and develop proper plans of action with
the help from their leaders to succeed and get off the
program.
