This document describes the design and fabrication of a lathe attachment for machining polygonal surfaces. The attachment aims to allow turning polygonal surfaces on circular workpieces in a single stroke without indexing, reducing machining time and costs compared to conventional milling or CNC methods. A group of students led by M Haris Zaheer designed the attachment under the supervision of Asst Prof Dr Sajidullah Butt and Asst Prof Rehan Ahmed Khan to machine polygonal surfaces economically for applications like mechanical fasteners and rod couplings.

Background of the Project Polygonal surfaces find their applications in:
• Mechanical fasteners (for gripping
purpose) • On rods (to couple attachment) Principal Machining Processes • Turning • Milling
Polygonal surfaces can be made by:
• Milling machine (slow) • CNC (expensive) Objectives • To fabricate a lathe attachment for polygonal machining which can operate without the use of any additional power source. • Turning the polygonal surfaces on the circular work-piece in a single stroke without indexing • Machining of non- circular objects on lathe • Reduction in machining hrs. • Economical Questions?
