The movie 12 years a slave is release in 2013 with duration of 2h 14m by Steve
McQueen, it is a drama history based on true and real experience of the
character. It is all about a black people named Solomon Northup that been
kidnapped by white people in Washington when he join to perform in various
event but since he is black, he sold by people and be a slave that been working
in the farm and whipped and treated like an animal. He been passed by many
white people and sell him to work in different workplace together with other
black people, he witnessed death of her other member one by one. He said when
he was kidnapped he is a free-man and have papers to prove them, back in that
day you must have papers to live peacefully in the society when you born with a
black race.

The scene where Solomon was hanged remained as one of the most memorable
scenes for me because it only showed the amount of passiveness they had in
what they were experiencing. It was as if they had given up and just accepted
their fate for the rest of their lives. They faced so many circumstances and
manage to be alive to wait somebody for them to help and rescue them; the
classification back then is very unfair since we all are human being.
In the world we live, we cannot avoid racism no matter the country,
color, status, culture, and origin. So even though the black people
have freedom, the wound of yesterday is still there. So that's how
most of people are careful to the choice of words and how to treat
them when it comes to black men or other people who experience
inhumanity and we cannot blame them if they are sensitive.
Solomon said "I don't want to survive, I want to live ..." for our own
understanding he wants to live and not just to survive because there
is a difference between being alive and actual living life. Being alive
is going through life without passion and happiness. Living life is to
actually make an effort to make things better for yourself.
• The 12 years of slave shows how racism is used as a tool for human evil,
providing an excuse for a slave owner to be cruel and inhumane. This
movie expose the heartbreaking reality of slavery in order to strengthening
the anti-slavery sentiments. Also, the film 12 years of slave depicts
injustice as a tool for human evil.
• There is a genuine and beautiful message in 12 Years A Slave: people don't
just deserve the capacity to survive, but to live. We must make a cultural
change that urges us to do something, anything, and everything to end
human trafficking.
• The message of this movie is that people tend to being superior when they
see an opportunity for them to treat people like slave and being unfair in
the society. This kind of people is worst but Solomon have a positive
mindset and fighting to his right to live in the world and didn’t give up
easily in his life. The relationship of Solomon to others gives them strength
to also live and fight their rights against white people even it cost their life.
This movie expose the heartbreaking reality of slavery in order to
strengthening the anti-slavery sentiments. Also, the film 12 years of slave
depicts injustice as a tool for human evil. Solomon points out that it doesn't
really seem to be about skin color, but rather about the slave owners feeling
justified in their brutality. 12 years of slave demonstrates how racism
restricts reality, justice, and equity.

As Filipinos, even though we are in the midst of many chaos and bad events,
we continue to smile and do not lose hope, and so we always have the motto
"there is still tomorrow“. And today’s generation, Gen Z are more
knowledgeable on what is happening around the world. We can now
protect those people who are affected by racism.

What we have learn in this video is that We should treat people equally,
don't judge or discriminate people base on what color, skin type, race etc.
We are all entitled to live free and equal.
