is a Honduran national
park located 30 km
north of the town of
Siguatepeque,
department of
Comayagua and 110
km northwest of
Tegucigalpa, M.D.C.
capital of the country.
The national park was founded in 1987 and is
difficult to access. Its area is 4,942 km2 at its core
and an additional 47,837 km2 in its buffer zone. The
highest point of the same is the "Pico del Cerro", at
2,047 m of altitude. The enclosure is part of the basin
of the reservoir of the Francisco Morazán
Hydroelectric Plant. It is worth highlighting the cloud
forest vegetation, which covers a large part of the
park and is of special landscape value.
The organizations responsible for
the protection of this area are
currently being managed by a non-
governmental organization (PAG)
who provide economic resources
and are in charge of protecting the
park.
Secondly, the state of Honduras
with AFE / COHDEFOR through
the Department of Protected Areas
and Wildlife, provides support to
the organization when it requires it
and the Armed Forces with patrols
within the park limits
