Mahabhinishkramana
Siddhartha left his home in search of truth.
In Buddhism this incidence termed as a
Mahabhinishkramana.

He meditated firstly with Alara Kalam but was not


convinced with attainment of liberation from
sorrow by mental discipline and knowledge only.

Later on, accompanied by five


wandering ascetics he practices
severe austerities until his body
was almost emaciated.

Realising the austerities could


not lead to realisation so he
abandoned them.

He was offered a bowl of


Milk-rice by a low caste
village girl Sujata.

At this point, Siddhartha


has realized the path of
awakening is a “middle
way”.

Enlightenment (Sambodhi )
He took seat under papal tree
facing east.
Finally at the age of 35 he
ultimately attained
Enlighenment on
Vaishakha Poornima at Uruvela
in Gaya (Bihar) on the bank of
Niranjana River

Dharma-Chakra-Pravartana

Buddha proceeded to Sarnath


gave his first sermon to his five
former companion in a deer
park.

Dharma Chakra Parivartana


means
“Turning the Wheel of Dharma”

Buddha Sangha

He formed Sangha of
Buddhims at Sarnath

He delivered maximum
sermons at Shravasti.
Preaching language of
Mahatma Buddha was Pali.

Buddha admitted females to Sangha only on the


repealed request of his chief disciple Anand.

Gautomi Prajapati was first women to join the


sangh

For the next 40 years Buddha travelled all over


the country spreading the message of
Buddhism.

Mahaparinirvana

In 483 B.C. at the age of 80 yrs at Kushinagar he died from an


illness.

This incidence is termed as a Mahaparinirvana in Buddhism.
