Buddhism is an Indian religion based on a series

of original teachings attributed to
Gautama Buddha (founder).

•Born as Siddharatha in 563 B.C on Vaishakha poornima .
•Shakya Kshatriya family His father Shuddhodhana was the
ruler of Kapilavastu and mother was (Queen
Mahamayadevi).
•Village Lumbini, Rupandehi dist (Nepal)
•Raised by his step-mother Gautmi (maternal Aunt), hence
he was named as Gautam.

He is called as “Enlightened one”, “Tathagata” (one who has attained

the truth) and “Shakya Muni”.

Brahmanas predicted that Siddhartha would either be a great king or

he would be a great spiritual leader

At 16 he was married to Yashodhara and at the age of 29 years he had

son named Rahul

Four sights
 BUDDHISM

•An old man, who was suffering.

•A Sick man with disease

•A dead man

•An ascetic

The first three sights made him sad but the fourth one inspired him.
