• Population: Approximately 45 million people

• States are officially recognized under North Eastern Council (NEC)
• Consist of 220 languages and ethnic groups.
• Each State has its own official language as well as sub-languages
• The term ‘indigenous inhabitant’ is used among these states.
• The economy is agrarian.
• Christianity is the major religion of Nagaland, Mizoram and
Meghalaya. Assam, Manipur and Tripura are mainly Hindu.

politics.

• Limited percentage of representation, intense competition occurs.
