ADJECTIVES
We use comparative adjectives
when we are
comparing two things
or people.
Comparative adjectives
usually come before
the word “than”.
How do we form
comparative
adjectives?

Adjevtives + -er

short + -er = shorter


small + -er = smaller
thivk + -er = thicker
The apple is smaller than the pineapple.

I am bigger
than he
apple!
EXAMPLES:

The mango tree is shorter than the


coconut tree.
I am taller
than he

The dictionary is thicker than the
story book.
I am thinner

in ‘e’?
Adjevtives + -r

large + -r = larger
strange + -r = stranger
safe + -r = safer
How do we form

adjectives that end
in ‘y’?
Drop the ‘y’ + ‘ier’

tiny = tinier
heavy = heavier
ugly= uglier

more things.
Superlative adjectives
usually come after
the word “the”.
How do
we form Adjevtives + -est
comparative
adjectives? short + -est = shortest
small + -est = smallest
thivk + -est = thickest
Example: Jenny is the smartest girl in
the class.
Example: Su Ling is the thinnest
person in her family.
