Intesecting Gear
Intersecting gear are also known as gear for
intersecting shafts.
It is the motion between two intersecting shaft or
equievalent to two intersecting cones.
The mainly used intersecting gear are the ‘Bevel Gear’. A bevel
gears are gear that have tapered teeth arranged on truncated
cones. The are 2 types of bevel gear :
a) Straight bevel gear.
b) Spiral bevel gear.

Straight bevel gear
• Straight bevel gears are provided with straight teeth, radial to
the point of intersection of the axes and vary in cross section
through the length inside generator of the cone.
• It is are used in the main mechanism of a hand drill, when the
handle is turned in a vertical direction, the bevel gear change
the rotation of the chuck to a horizontal rotation.
Spiral bevel gear
• Spiral bevel gears are made of incline teeth at an angle to face
the bevel. Spiral gear are also known as helical bevels.
• They are mainly used in rotorcraft drive system. The gear
redirect the shaft from the horizontal gas turbine engine to
the vertical rotor.
Conclusion
The bevel gear works just the same as other gears but
acquires a bit more precision upon installation due to the
angular reason. the bevel gear are known in machinery
industry because of their ability of transferring rotation at
high speed and accuracy.
