1. What shape is the Earth? The earth is round

like a ball/sphere.
2. What can you see on the surface of the
Earth? We can see land, oceans and clouds.

 Shape of the Earth
 The Earth is an irregularly shaped ellipsoid. While the Earth
appears to be round when viewed from the vantage point of
space, it is actually closer to an ellipsoid.
 Ellipsoid: a three-dimensional figure whose plane sections
are ellipses or circles.
 Earth is a sphere. Even though our planet is a sphere, it is
not a perfect sphere.
 The Earth is almost completely round.
 The Earth is round like a ball but the surface is not flat.
 The Continents and Oceans
 The large areas of land on the Earth’s surface are called continents.
The map below shows the continents.

1. How many continents are there? 7 (seven).

2. Which continent is the largest?
Asia (Asia can be divided into five regions.
These are Central Asia, East Asia, South Asia,
Southeast Asia, and Western Asia)
3. Which continent is the smallest?
Australia.

The large areas of water around the continents are called oceans. There are five oceans on
Earth.

 Name an ocean nearest to Indonesia ?

Indian Ocean.
 Which ocean is the largest?
Pacific Ocean.
 Which ocean is the smallest?
Arctic Ocean.

Note:
Be careful with the spelling of Arctic
And Antarctic!

1. Is Indonesia a continent? Indonesia is not a continent, but it’s

a country.
2. The Southern Ocean is also called the Antarctic Ocean. Why?
It is near Antartica.
