ABSTRACT OF THE CASE

 Vitiligo is one of the most common cutaneous disorders of depigmentation.it


is also known as leukoderma.

 Vitiligo affects 1%of the population, is seen in all races and is most
troublesome in those with a dark skin.

 It is a common cutaneous disorders that has severe psychological and


significant social consequences.
INTRODUCTION
 Vitiligo is an acquired idiopathic disorder characterised by
well defined(chalky white) patchy depigmented macules with
normal &or hyperpigmented border and scalloped margins.

 a/w with autoimmune disorder, D.M., Thyroid disease,


alopecia areata, addisons disease, hypoparathyroidism.
EPIDEMIOLOGY
Incidence: 1% of population
Race: affects all races
Age: usually b/w 10 and 30 years
Sex: both sexes are equally affected
Genetic inheritance: about 30% of patients give a family history of disorder
most patients attribute the onset to specific life events-physical
injury, sun burn, emotional stress, illness, pregnancy.
most common sites are –periorificial, face, genitals, extensor
surface, hands, feet
CLINICAL FEATURES

• Most patients present with one to several amelanotic


macule/patch that appear chalk or milky white in
color.
• The lesions are usually well demarcated,round oval or
linear in shape
• Range from few milimeters to centimeter in size.
• Patches are bilaterally symmetrical.
• Patients can also have a localised patch of white /gray
hair

periorificial areas(around the
eyes and mouth)
• On the extremities it favors the
elbows,knees,dorsal aspects of
the hands,digits,flexor
wrists,dorsal ankles,shins
• Body hairs in vitiliginous
macules may be
depigmented(leukotrichia)
