 Plot: the soul of the drama, the arrangement of the incidents

 Characters: Determines men’s qualities i.e. goodness, propriety, truthfulness & Consistency.

 Thought: the faculty of saying what is possible.

 Diction: the expression of the meaning in words.

 Song: holds the chief place among the embellishments.

 Spectacle: has an emotional attraction for the audience.


 The play is focusing on Hamlet’s to revenge the death of his father

 Characters are supposed to be the most perfect people.

 Hamlet undergoes through unmerited misfortune.

 Hamlet contemplates life and death.

 a tragic hero must fall through his or her own error.


 Aristotle tragic hero must be a person of high stature.

 Tragic hero must fall through his own error.

 Hamlet tragic flaw can be found in act III.

 Hamlet duels with Laertes.

 Action & events are a picture of our day – to – day life.


Shakespeare’s Hamlet is a great & effective tragedy in his poetics.
There are some aspects of poetics that Shakespeare does not include.
He brokes some Aristotle’s rule.
