Unit 2: The Mouth

1. What are some different parts of the mouth?

2. What are the functions of these parts?


upper lip: The upper lip is the fleshy
tissue around the opening of the mouth
which is closest to the nose.

Uvula: is a piece of soft tissue that


hangs
from the soft palate and stops food from
maxillae and palatine bones.
hard palate: The hard palate extends over
the roof of the mouth and is formed from
maxillae and palatine bones.

Gums are tissues that covers and connects


the teeth to the jaw bones.
lower lip is the fleshy tissue around
the opening of the mouth which is
closest to the chin.
teeth are the hard structures in the
mou mouth, used for biting and chewing.
tonsils is made of lymphoid tissue
and forms part of the immune
system.
Soft palate is located behind the
hard
palate and is made from tissue and
muscles.

Palatoglossal arch is an arch-


shaped
structure at the back of the mouth.
