RUSSELL BODY GASTRITIS ASSOCIATED

WITH HELICOBACTER PYLORI INFECTION: A
CASE REPORT

Russell Bodies.- Are

spherical immunoglobulin ‐
containing structures
derived from plasma cells.
Histologically characterised
by a dense monomorphous
accumulation of cells with
numerous intracellular and
extracellular.

Intracellurar Extracellular
This case was intimately
associated with
Helicobacter pylori
infection.
This lesion was called
only recently as Russell
body gastritis by Tazawa
and Tsutsumi.
Case
A woman of 53 years old, she was referred from a
private clinic with an abnormal gastric lesion
She had epigastric bloating.
She denied fever, chills or weight loss
The patient received treatment to H pylori during 7
days.
Discusion
Russell bodies represent a general response of the cell
to the accumulation of abundant, non‐degradable
immunoglubulin.
Thus, Russell bodies can appear in various organs and
different diseases, either benign or malignant.
Histologically, awareness
of this disease may
prevent confusion with
neoplasia.
The implementation of
treatment for H pylori can
eradicate this disease.
