Use the Present Progressive to talk about things
happening now, at the moment.

To form the Present Progressive


positive, use subject + (to be) + verb
+ -ing

I am
You are
We are
They are watching TV

He is
She is
It is

Examples:

• “What are you doing now?”


• “I am cooking.”
• She is studying at the moment.
• It is raining.
• We are thinking about you.
• They are playing baseball.

It is common to use the contracted form:

“What are you doing now?”


• “I’m cooking.”
• He’s studying at the moment.
• It’s raining.
• We’re thinking about you.
• They’re playing baseball.

Be careful! Some verbs are never used in


the Present Progressive:
like, want, need, believe.

• I’m believing in God.


• I believe in God.

• She’s wanting a soda.


• She wants a soda.
