6 Simple Steps
CHOOSE A COMMON PROBLEM

• Can be broken down into specifics.


• It should involve as many people as
possible
• Be a problem that can be controlled within
your department.
LIMIT DISCUSSION
• One or two hazards per meeting.
• Develop and explain reasons why the
problem exists.
• Give your solutions
• Ask for suggestions from the people
closest to it.
COMPREHENSIVE PLAN
• Action items to eliminate the identified
hazards
• Designation of responsibility
DISCUSS ANY NEW SAFETY
PROCEDURES
• Listen to objections concerning them.
• Get agreement on the ways to enforce the
rules.
SCHEDULE OF FOLLOW-UP
CHECKS
• Observance of the safety
recommendations agreed upon
• Status of action items with anticipated
completion date
PREPARE A SUMMARY
• All the points brought up by your group.
• Go over the list to see that you answered
all objections fully and satisfactorily.
• Be sure to give consideration to all
suggestions made at the meeting.
FINALLY
• Hazard identification and elimination is a
team effort
• Success happens item by item
• Recognize the team for their successes
