MEANING OF AYURVEDA

• The term Ayurveda is comprised of two


words ayu (life) and veda (knowledge
• It deals with health and wellbeing,  It is
defined as the discipline that deals with the
salutary and unsalutary aspects of life, the
happy, and unhappy life, and what is
beneficial and not beneficial for nurturing
life and a full life span.
HISTORY OF AYURVEDA IN TELANGANA

• It can be proudly stated that this systemnof


practicing Ayurveda is prevailing here since
foundation of this city in 1590 A.D.
• The physicians of Ayurveda and Unani both were
among the staff of the first general hospital of
Hyderabad city 'Darush-shifa' which was
constructed in 1595 A.D.
• Due to the efforts of some eminent Ayurvedic
physicians, Ayurveda progressed well. The names
and the photos of these physicians have been given
in this article.
FLOURISH OF AYURVEDA IN TELANGANA

• Mir Osman Ali Khan Bahadur, the Nizam VII ruled the
Hyderabad State for about 38 years. 
• In those days Ayurveda was flourishing in the state due to
efforts of many Ayurvedic physicians, scholastic teachers,
distinguished patrons and well-wishes who worked together
with devotional spirit to make Ayurveda available to the
people of the state to provide care for the diseases. 
• Nizam Ayurveda Vaidya Sangh started Nizam Ayurvedic
college and Nizam Ayurvedic Sadar Dawakhana in Hyderabad
city under their management in the year 1934 as a private
institution.
DECREASING IMPORTANCE OF AYURVEDA IN
TELANGANA
• The current form of medicalisation can be seen and witnessed with many examples,
ranging from reproductive technologies , to treatment for age-related issues and to
the use of psycho-pharmaceuticals.
• This shift towards medicalisation is increasingly seen to be influencing traditional
life sciences like Ayurveda not only in Telangana but all over the India.
SCOPE OF AYURVEDA IN TELANGANA

• Nowadays Ayurveda has become very popular


among the tourist especially foreigners.
• As modern medicine with its strong chemical
drugs fails to combat nature. Patients from all
over the Globe are coming to India for
Ayurveda treatment.
• The state has many premier institution like MNR
AYURVEDA COLLEGE DR. BR KR AYURVEDA
COLLEGE etc , Which provide great knowledge
about Ayurveda to the students .
