• CEDAW, is a progressive and thematic text focused on the development and enjoyment of rights of women, it addresses
discrimination against women. It was adopted by The United Nations General Assembly in Resolution 18 th 1979.
• The State parties were of the view that the problem of discrimination should be tackled as it prevented women from
participating in social, political and economic life by pushing them into the background
