Logistics – How it Works

Transportation and warehousing are the two major functions of logistics.

Transportation management focuses on planning, optimizing and executing the use of vehicles to move goods between
warehouses, retail locations and customers using various transport modes

Warehouse - where goods are received, processed and fulfilled (shipped to the customer). Warehouse management
mainly focus on the storing the goods, inventory management and order fulfillment.

Party Logistics

- 1PL
1PL means first-party logistics. This is where a company does not outsource transport and logistics services to a third
party.
- 2PL
A 2PL is an asset-based carrier that is responsible for the method of transportation
- 3PL
A 3PL provides outsourced or ‘third party’ logistics services to companies for all or part of their supply chains
- 4PL
A 4PL (sometimes referred to a Lead Logistics Provider) is an independent company who will manage a customer’s
supply chain by orchestrating the resources and technology of its own organization along with the services of other
companies such as 3PLs to create the best solution
- 5PL
This is a logistics partner that handles the logistics needs of multiple customers. Hence management of supply
chains shifts to supply networks. Also, 5PLs are focused on e-business and aim to deliver services at minimum cost.
