SENTENCE
SENTENCE
 A sentence has two main parts: a complete subject and a complete
predicate. These parts express a complete thought.
SIMPLE SUBJECT AND PREDICATE

 The simple subject is the essential noun, pronoun, or group of words as noun.
 The simple predicate is the essential verb or verb phrase.
COMPOUND SUBJECT AND PREDICATE

 A compound subject is two or more subject that have the same verb.
They are joined by a conjunction such as and or or.
 Sentences may also contain two or more verbs in the complete predicate.
 A compound predicate is two or more verbs that have the same subject. They
are joined by a conjunction such as AND or OR.

 Complements

complements complete the meaning of the predicate of sentence.

 Direct object
a direct object receives the action of transitive action verb.

 Indirect object
an indirect object appears with direct object and names the person

 Objective complements
an objective complements is an adjective or noun that appears with a direct and
describes or renames it.

a predicate nominative (a noun or pronoun) appears with linking verb and
renames, identifies, or explains the subject of the sentence.

a predicate adjective (an adjective) appears with a linking verb and
describes the subject of the sentence.
DIFFERENT KINDS OF PHRASES

1.Adjective phrases
an adjective phrase (a prepositional phrase)modifies a noun or pronoun by
telling what kind or which one.

2.Adverb phrases
an verb phrase (a prepositional phrase) modifies verb, adjective, or adverb
by pointing out where, when, in manner, or to what extent.
3.Appositives
an appositive (a noun) is placed next to another noun or pronoun to identify, rename, or explain
it.

4.Appositive phrases
an appositive phrase (a noun or pronoun) with modifies, is placed next to a noun or pronoun
for additional information and details.

5.A participle
a form of a verb, can act as an adjective.
6.Participle phrases
a participle phrase is modified by an adverb or adverb phrase
Or accompanied by a complement. The whole phrase act as an
Adjective.
FUNCTION OF SENTENCE

1.Declarative sentences
state ideas and end with a period (.).
2.Interrogative sentences
ask question and end with question mark(?).
3.Imperative sentences
give orders or directions and end with period or exclamation mark.
4.Exclamatory sentences
convey strong emotion and end with exclamation mark.
SENTENCE STRUCTURE

 Simple sentences
consist of a single independent clause.
