THE PLAN-DO-CHECK-ACT PROCEDURE

 1. PLAN-recognize an opportunity and plan a change.

 2. DO-Test the change. Carry out a small scale study
 3. CHECK-Review the test, analyze the results and identify what you’ve
learned.
 4. ACT-take action based on what you learned in the study step. If the change
did not work, go through the cycle again with a different plan. If you were
successful, incorporate what you learned from the test into wider changes.

What Is a Three-Sigma Limit?
Three-sigma limits is a statistical calculation where the data are within three standard
deviations from a mean. In business applications, three-sigma refers to processes that
operate efficiently and produce items of the highest quality.

Three-sigma limits are used to set the upper and lower control limits in statistical quality
control charts. Control charts are used to establish limits for a manufacturing or business
process that is in a state of statistical control.
To understand this measurement,
consider the normal bell curve,
which has a normal distribution.
The farther to the right or left a
data point is recorded on the bell
curve, the higher or lower,
respectively, the data is than the
mean. From another point of
view, low values indicate that
the data points fall close to the
mean; high values indicate the
data is widespread and not close
to the average.
