MEASUREMENT

CHAPTER 10
CLASS V
PREPARED BY
MS AMNA JABEEN
• Measurement is finding a
number that shows the size
or amount of something.
We can measure
Time
The ongoing sequence of events is time. We can
measure time in seconds, minutes, hours, days,
weeks, months, and years.
Weight/ Mass
The amount of matter a thing consists of is
called its weight. Measuring weight means to
measure the heaviness of a thing.
Weight can be measured in
grams, kilograms, and pounds.
Length/ Distance
The amount of something that is measured
from one end to the other along the longest
side is called its length.

Length is measured in
centimeters, meters,
kilometers, feet, and miles
Capacity / Volume
Capacity is a measure of how much
quantity a thing can hold.

Capacity is measured in
liters, milliliters and
gallons
Temperature
The temperature of a thing is the
measurement of how hot or cold it is.

Temperature is measured in
Celsius, Fahrenheit, and
Kelvin.
Units of measurements
1m = 100 cm
1km = 1000 m (meters)
1 kg = 1000 g (grams)
1liter = 1000 ml (milliliters)
Converting
Measurement

Converting larger units

into smaller units
Prior knowledge
• 0.32 x 100 = 32
• 0.43 x 1000 = 430
• 6.5 x 100 = 650
• 7.1 x 1000 = 7100
• RULE TO CONVERT
• meter into centimeter
× 100
• m cm

• 1 m = 100 cm
• 2m = 200 cm
• 3m = 300 cm and so on
Convert these lengths
into cm
• 32.31 m =_______ cm

32.31 x 100 = 3231

240
• 2.4 m = _________ cm
1204
• 12.04 m =_________cm
2090
• 20.9 m =_________cm
150
• 1.5 m =_________cm
• RULE TO CONVERT
• Km into meters
• km × 1000 m

• 1 km = 1000 m
• 2km = 2000 m
• 3km = 3000 m
Convert these lengths
into meters
• 2.3 km =_______ m

2.3 x 1000 = 2300

400
• 0.4 km = _________ m
1040
• 1.04 km =_________m
20700
• 20.7 km =_________m
1900
• 1.9 km =_________m
• A string is 2.4 m long . Another string is o.6 m
long. What is the difference in their lengths in
centimeters?
Solution:
• First string = 2.4 m
• second string = 0.6 m
• Difference = 2.4 – 0.6 = 1.8m
• As we know 1m = 100 cm
• So, 1.8 m = 1.8 x 100 = 180 cm
• The difference in their lengths is 180 cm
