INTRODUCTION
• the word “discussion” has been derived from
the Latin root “discutere” which means to
shake or strike. Thus “discussion” refers to
thoroughly shaking up the subject that is,
examining it thoroughly to reach a conclusion.
• A discussion is an activity of sitting and talking
about a specific subject.
DEFINITION
• Discussion is basically a co-operative, problem
solving activity seeks a consensus regarding
the solution of a problem.

• A discussion is a conversation with a focal


point, such as a specific topic, question,
concept, or problem in which there is a
sincere desire to arrive at a decision.

• It is oral.

• Discussion proceeds systematically from the
question or problem toward increased
understanding or decision.

TYPES OF DISCUSSION
• Group discussion techniques can be classified
into two major groups an.
• Teaching which can be used effectively with
small groups and
• Techniques which can be used effectively with
large groups.
Those which can be used with small
groups include:
• Individual conferences
• Informal group conference
• Clinic
• Seminar
• Role of playing and
• Temporary subgroups
• They are used with groups of not more than 25,
so that a face-to-face relationship is possible.
The techniques which can be used with large groups include

• Multiple round tables


• Symposium
• Panel and
• Role-playing demonstration.
• These techniques do not permit face-to-face
relationships, since they must be adopted to
large groups.

• The group recorder- one
• The group members- 15-25
