Importance of OB – People Skill
 Irrespective of the functional area you belong to,
you are required to get your results through People.
 An understanding of individuals and what motivates
them is important for getting the right results.
 Problems related to other functional areas may be
structured and you may be able to predict but
problems related to people may not be structured.
 While dealing with People, what worked yesterday
may not work today, even with the same person.
 Your performance/results also depends on others.
Importance of OB – People Skill (Contd.)
 Time and Money spent on developing People is an
Investment and not expenditure.
 Investing in other resources may give you immediate
results but investing in human resource gives lasting
results in the long run.
 Investment in people does not depreciate with time
like other investments. It gives dividends over time.
 Machines operate within a limit (each having a
particular capacity) but there is no limiting factor in
case of the right people, when given the right
environment.
 All other things being equal, People Skill can be the
differentiator which can give you better results.
Importance of OB – People Skill
 Incorporating OB principles in the workplace can yield
many important organisational outcomes.
 A better understanding of OB and its applications can
help organisations attract and retain high-performing
managers which is very important they are in short
supply and costly to replace.
 There is a strong relationship between the quality of
workplace relationships and employee job satisfaction,
stress and attrition.
 Research suggests that positive work relationships help
employees flourish, leading to improvements in job and
life satisfaction, positive emotions at work and
perceptions that one’s work has meaning.
