Discussion-on scientific papers of the
panchakarma procedures
 Abhyanga-
o The human body is having 107 marma. in marmas, the prana resides.
o By doing massage the vital points gets stimulated and produce positive energy, there by
protecting, rejuvenating and increasing the immunity towards environmental changes.
o It is scientifically proven that massage increases white blood corpuscles and antibodies,
which provide more resistance against diseases.
 Padaabyanga-
o According to Vagbhata there are 4 major nerve present in feet which is directly connected to
the eyes.
o these nerves helps in maintaining good vision and relieve eyestrain

 Shiro Abhyanga-
o gives comfortness at the site due to temperature created.
o The heat causes the blood vessels to dilate, which increases blood circulation and promotes
healing, evacuation and cleansing of the secretary passages, enhance the absorption of the
medicine through the skin. There by pacifies dryness ,prevents shedding of hair, scales.
 Nasya –
o the therapy cleanses and opens channels of head thereby improving process of oxygenation
which has a direct influence on functioning of brain.
Udwartana –

oRubbing helps in the absorption of effusions, relief of blood stasis and carrying away the morbid products
in the system; it increases nutrition in all tissues, removes fatigue, influence of rubbing upon the
circulation of fluids is also of great importance.
oboth the venous and lymphatic circulations are accelerated towards the heart. it diminishes the blood
pressure without increasing the activity of heart.

Vamana,virechana,anuvasana-

oPrior to the five pradhana karmas, swedana procedure using hot steam increases the local skin blood flow,
there by medicines added to the oil also give additional benefits.
oThe toxic products of body metabolism can be broadly divided in to water soluble, fat soluble and volatile
substances.
oThere are number of mechanisms available to get rid of the water soluble toxic materials through kidney,
sweat and other body secretions, removal of fat- soluble toxic materials is very difficult and only liver can
play a small role.
oHence it is likely that, there would be accumulation of fat-soluble toxic products in the body.
oLiberal use of oil and ghee in ,various Panchakarma procedures makes it possible to eliminate these fat
soluble toxic products.
oVamana,Virechana and Anuvasana use oil liberally, there by removing toxic fat-soluble waste materials.

The samshodhana chikitsa( bio- clensing therapy) of ayurveda, which includes panchakarma treatment,

basically intends to eliminate the toxic elements from the body and thereby enhances the immunity of the
body.
Conclusion
 The main aim of Ayurveda is to promote health of a healthy individual.
And cure of disease in unhealthy.
 By revisiting the classics, ancient literature and scientific papers we
can get a solution which is a boon to the mankind.
 The variation in daily aspect can be tackled by regular and methodic
practice of Dinacharya, Ritucharya and Rasayana and Vajeekarana.
