Colossians 1:16-17
 The
Sovereignty
of God
The Doctrine
of Providence
 Providence means the
continuous activity of God
whereby he makes all the events
of the physical, mental and
moral realms work out his
purpose, and this purpose is
nothing short of the original
design of God in creation.
 In simple terms,
Sovereignty means
God’s
TOTAL CONTROL of
everything.
PROOF THAT
CHRIST IS
SOVEREIGN
 All thing
were Created
by Christ.
 COLOSSIANS 1:16
For by him all things were
created: things in heaven, and on
earth, visible and invisible,
whether thrones or powers or
rulers or authorities, all things
were created by him and for him.
He is BEFORE
all things.
 COLOSSIANS 1:17
He is before all things
and in him all things
hold together.
 Christ did not come
into being at his birth.
He was present
during creation.
 JOHN 1:1-3
In the beginning was the Word,
and the Word was with God, and
the Word was God. He was with
God in the beginning. Through
him all things were made;
without him, nothing was made
that has been made.
 And in him
ALL THINGS HOLD
TOGETHER.
HE PRESERVES
The only explanation
for our continued
existence is that God
preserves us.
HE PROVIDES
 PSALM 65:9
You care for the land and water it;
you enrich it abundantly. The
streams of God are filled with
water to provide the people with
grain, for so you have ordained it.
HE GOVERNS
 PSALM 47:7-8
For God is the King of all the
earth; sing to Him a psalm of
praise. God reigns over the
nations, God is seated on his holy
throne.
CONCLUSION
Even through Christ is
God, high and
sovereign, he has also
showed you that
HE CARES FOR YOU
He cares for you that
he preserves you, he
provides for you, and
he rules over you.
Give God the glory by
thanking Him for
making all things
work for your own
good.
