Dealing with

Personal
Challenges
As life goes on, we
can’t stop challenges in
entering our lives and
all we can do is cope
with it and learn from it
at the same time.
These
challen
ges
may
include
• A Broken Home
Having a broken home means having a sour or strained
relationship between parents and children because of the
absence of love, care, and understanding that would probably,
in most cases, result to separation of both parents. In this
case, parents may find it difficult to spend quality time with their
children separately. Children, being the most affected one, may
feel upset at the thought of having a broken family and being in
such situation. This may affect their academics, social health
and way of thinking. Furthermore, among other disadvantages,
a decrease in income is also a result (and/or a cause) of a
broken home that can affect how much time and money
parents have to spend with their children.
• FINANCIAL TROUBLES
Money is important to one’s life since it’s a source to
fulfill basic needs and live a comfortable, healthy, and
prosperous life. A financial problem is a state wherein
people fail to meet necessary basic needs. Unemployment,
low income, debts and unbudgeted expenses are just
some of the reasons of having financial troubles. These
problems limit one’s ability to do or purchase something
such us being unable to afford hospital and school bills for
health and academic-related settlements and being unable
to eat a complete meal for the day. Moreover, an extreme
need for money causes some people to do deadly crimes.
• ACADEMIC STRUGGLES
Students that fear the idea of failing tend to stress
themselves with academics. The amount of school works
increases since the academic demands gets higher and
higher every level. Students get overwhelmed or frustrated
with this and perhaps would make it difficult for him to
complete it all, leading to even more stress. This would
result to having a poor sleep schedule and too little time to
relax that would also be a reason for sleeping and lack of
participation in class. In the end, students might probably
have low and failing grades instead of good ones.
• BULLYING
Bullying, an act of harming others intentionally whether
by verbal harassment or physical assault is a serious threat
to the youth today. Insecurities, jealousy, anger, and even
having a desire to draw attention are some of the reasons
of bullying. This can affect the victim’s (whom abusers call
“target”) emotional, mental, and physical health. The
targets and even those who witness bullying often drop
their marks, miss and leave school because of depression,
low self-esteem, loneliness, physical illnesses, and
threatened or attempted self-harm. Reportedly, the target
could be bullies sooner or later.
• DISCRIMINATION
Discrimination is everywhere. It typically differentiates
an individual or a group from another on the basis of an
ascribed trait. This is a major issue we can’t stop on
dealing. This is also a kind of verbal bullying. With
discrimination, people find it hard to determine where they
fit in the society. Being excluded or mistreated can affect
how we present ourselves and interact with others. This
being the case, the individual or group being discriminated
may experience depression, stress, and anxiety.
• LACK OF SELF CONFIDENCE
Not knowing or believing the significance of yourself
and your abilities is a main reason of having a lack of self-
confidence. These feelings are common in people who
allow their selves be devoured by other people’s negativity.
This holds us back to what we can possibly be; indeed a
hindrance towards success.
• DEPRESSION
Everyone experiences unhappiness at a point in their life yet
only temporary. Depression, on the other hand, is more intense
and of longer term that interferes a person’s ability to engage in
daily activities. This is a serious problem that calls for prompt,
appropriate treatment. Many young people feel that life is not fair
or that things "never go their way." They feel "stressed out" and
confused. Depression can be life changing and even life-
threatening. Loss of interest in previously enjoyable activities,
change in appetite and seeping (whether too much or too little),
fatigue, a feeling of worthlessness or hopelessness, problems in
concentrating and making decisions, and thoughts of suicide are
the common symptoms of being depressed.
.
These challenges, in most cases, are hindrances to
one’s success, may it be big or small. However, these also
present opportunities for a great transformation.
Regardless of how difficult it is to withstand the challenges,
facing it is the only way to get through. Always remember
that every problem has a solution.
BE OPTIMISTIC

Take out all the negative energy and let the positive
ones in. You can make it till the end! Success is waiting on
the other side, don’t let anything prevent you from getting a
hold of it. Think positive. Fight with a smile and you’re good
to go.  
TAKE CONTROL

You have to be willing to take control of your life and

whatever is holding you back. Use the personal challenges
as a motivation and an opportunity to make ourselves
better.
BELIEVE IN YOURSELF

No one knows you better that you. Believe in yourself,

in all that you are and all that you can. Don’t let your fears
and self-doubt consume you.

“Believing a solution paves the way to solution”

SHOW WHAT YOU’VE GOT

Always do your very best. What you plant now, you will
harvest later. Don’t stress yourself out; don’t try to be
perfect, everyone has their limitations. Doing the best is
more important than being the best. You did great!
ENGAGE YOURSELF IN SPORTS

Performing sports boosts your self-esteem and improve

how you interact with others. More importantly, you’ll learn
how to deal with loss. Life is one long path of victories and
defeats, and you’ll know how to act in each situation.
MAKE NEW FRIENDS

Find some friends that helps each other at times of

difficulties on the path to success. Success is a team sport
and no one could achieve it alone. A healthy and stable
team has a higher chance of success.
