STRESS CALCULATION
STRESS DIAGRAM
EXAMPLE NO.1

Given the following data of prestressed rectangular beam:

b=300mm
h=600mm
Superimposed DL = 5kN/m
LL = 15kN/m
Unit wt of concrete = 23 Kn/m
The beam is simply supported on a span of 12 m and are pre-tensioned with initial force of 1,750kN from low relaxation
strands with centroid 220mm below NA throughout the beam length.
a. Calculate the stress at the bottom fibers in (Mpa) of the bam at end span due to initial prestressing force only.
b. Calculate the stress at the top fibers of the beam at midspan due to service loads and prestressing force
EXAMPLE NO. 2
EXAMPLE NO. 3

An unsymmetrical I-Section Beam is used to support an imposed load of 2kN/m over a span of 8m. The section
details are shown below. At the center of the span, the effective prestressing force of 100kN is located at 50mm from
the soffit of the beam. Compute the Resultant of Prestressed and Loads.
