FEEDLOT

• A feedlot or feed yard is a type of animal feeding operation (AFO) which is used in intensive animal farming for finishing livestock
• The basic principle of the feedlot is to increase the amount of meat each animal produces as quickly as possible
• In a typical feedlot, a cow's diet is roughly 62% roughage, 31% grain, 5% supplements (minerals and vitamins), and 2% premix.
• Feedlot diets are high in protein, to encourage growth of muscle mass and the deposition of some fat.
INTEGRATION

FGV Holding Bhd over 300,000 hectares of land under oil palm, some
100,000 hectares are suitable for cattle integration projects. That
mean FGV have the potential to support more than 100,000 heads of
cattle.

 Beef and soya bean industries are the main culprits for more forest disappearing internationally and not palm oil as often
claimed. But with Cattle Integration with Oil Palm will help to mitigate this problem
 Putting cattle into plantation to graze in oil palm plantation.
 Increase in oil palm yield.
 The integrated cattle provide biological control of weed
 Reducing of chemicals applied in oil palm plantation up to 68%.
 Weed are rich source of green feed.
 Grass available under oil palm plantation:
I. From 1st year planting to mature : 2000-3000 kg dry matters /ha/yr
II. From 6 - 20 years : ranged between 400 – 800 kg dry matter /ha/yr (Chen et al., 1991)
III. However 7-8% of the forage species under oil palm are not palatable.
IV. Coast of weeding could be redused between 20 an 40%. Nevertheless, reduction of weeding cost is not
immediate and requires two years for great changes on species colonization to occur.
 Three benefited the nutrient returned to the soil through faeces and urine of cattle such as nitrogen, phosphorus and
potassium.
