Adaptation of a text
Literary adaptation is the adaption of a literary
source to another genre or medium.

Example: A novel, short story, play, poem into


music, a stage play, a ballet, an opera, a film, or
even an animation.
Taking a core concept from another text, such as
a theme, and recreating it in a different and
innovative way

Criteria for selection
● The texts have literary merit and are worthy of close study.
● The texts have intellectual merit.
● The texts allow students to develop a critical appreciation of the
craft and aesthetics of language and to experience the enjoyment
and pleasure offered by reading.
● The texts represent a range of literary genres.
● The range of texts ideally include traditional and contemporary
texts.
● The texts be accessible to as wide a range of students within a
particular year level and class as possible.
● Include a balance of new and established works.
● Contain print and non-print texts that are freely available.
● The texts reflect a wide range of experience
● The texts are appropriate for the age and development of students
and, in that context, reflect current community standards and
expectations.
