What is CV?
• A curriculum vitae is a short account of what a person has to offer a
potential employer. Its purpose is to gain an interview for a job and it
is likely to form the basis of that interview.
• While there is no one definitive template, a CV will typically contain
the applicant's personal details and short statements outlining his/her

• achievements and interests.
Importance of CV
• CV will give chance to evaluate yourself.
• CVs are mostly used to screen candidates for interview.
• CVs are the first introducer to the interviewer and explains your
complete background.
Components of a good C.V.
• Style – the layout, formatting and headings you use
• Content – All good stuff about you
• Points of agreement – Point out how and why you meet their
requirements.
Types of CV
1. Chronological CV – Education and Training is given
importance. The latest qualification comes first –
reverse order
2. Functional / Skill based CV- CVs are created with
concentrate on skills and responsibilities or
experiences. Usually meant for experienced persons
3. Speculative CV - sent not based on any advertisement
- match your skills, experiences, education with the skills
of the job requires
- Sent to right person if possible by name
- Emphasis on achievements and results. It should be
given in quantifiable terms
Content of CV
• Personal Details – Name and Address, Phone Number, email and own
home page or web page
• Career objective
• Summary of one’s life –details of education and qualifications, work
experiences, interests and achievement, skills, and references.
Personal Details
• List your name, address, telephone number, and email at the top of
the page. It is important to make your name a size larger than the rest
of the text as it is important for your reviewer to know who he or she
is reading about. It is up to you as to how you format this information.
• Standard format would be to have your name in the center of the
page. Your home address should be listed in a block format on the left
side of the paper. Put your telephone number and email below your
home address. If you have another address (such as your address
while you are at school) list this address on the right hand side of the
paper.
