Assist patient as needed.
Ifthe client is able to eat independently, stop here. Return

NASOGASTRIC TUBE FEEDING
EQUIPMENT
Prescribed nutritional formula/feeding (correct type and amount)
Catheter tip syringe (50ml)
Emesis basin
Clean gloves
pH test strip & A glass of water.
Incontinence sheet.
VERIFYING TUBE PLACEMENT
Aspirate gastric secretions and check gastric residual.
Measure pH of aspirated GI contents.
Auscultate over left upper quadrant with stethoscope and
inject 10 to 20 ml of air into tube.
VERIFYING TUBE PLACEMENT
Measure pH of aspirated GI contents.
Respiratory fluids have a pH of more than 6.
Gastric contents have pH range of 1 to 4.
Intestinal contents have pH range of 6 to 7.
