ARRHENIUS THEORY

WHO IS ARRHENIUS?

19 February 1859 – 2 October 1927. He was a

Swedish scientist.
Arrhenius was one of the founders of the science of
physical chemistry

He received the Nobel Prize for Chemistry in 1903,

becoming the first Swedish Nobel laureate.

Arrhenius's contributions to science are

memorialized by the Arrhenius equation, Arrhenius
acid, lunar crater Arrhenius, Martian crater
Arrhenius, the mountain of Arrheniusfjellet, and the
Arrhenius Labs at Stockholm University.
ARRHENIUS THEORY
ACIDS

Acids -> H+ / H3O+

(Acids release H+ ion / hydronium ion when associate with water)

Exp:
H+ + H2O -> H3O+
BASES

Bases -> OH +
(Bass release hydroxide ion in the solution)
ARRHENIUS ACID
ARRHENIUS BASE
CONCLUSION

Acid releases hydrogen ion when associates with water while Base
release hydroxyl ion when associates with water.
