GAIL (India) Limited is our country’s leading natural gas company

with a diversified interest across the natural gas value chain of :
- transmissions, trading, LNG- Regasification, petrochemicals,
LPG production & transmission and so much more.
- It runs a huge network of around 13,340 km of natural gas
pipelines spread across the length and breadth of India. It is also
continuously working on the execution of multiple pipeline
projects to further enhance the spread.
- GAIL has a significantly large portfolio. They are also expanding
their presence in terms of renewable energy.

Introduction to the Study

Their journey started off in August 1984 as a Central

Public Sector Undertaking (PSU) under the Ministry of
Petroleum & Natural Gas . The company was first given
the responsibility of construction, operation &
maintenance of the Hazira - Vijaypur -Jagdishpur (HVJ)
pipeline Project.

It was also one of the biggest cross-country natural

gas pipeline projects in the world. Originally the 1800
Km long pipeline was built at a cost of Rs.1700Crores
and it was laid as the foundation for the development of
market for natural Gas in India.
